Wagner appeal

The Wagner Appeal enables The Royal Opera to keep Wagner’s legacy alive at Covent Garden for future generations by supporting the cost of staging our ambitious Wagner productions.

The Wagner Appeal is crucial in helping us to accomplish the herculean task of mounting all our Wagner productions. The Royal Opera is enormously grateful for any support from the Appeal, without which we would not be able to undertake such extraordinary work.

Oliver Mears, Director of Opera, The Royal Opera

Your support will be invaluable in helping The Royal Opera stage its first undertaking of Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen in two decades. Monumental in its scope, daring in the breadth of its ambition, Wagner’s Ring is the defining artistic undertaking for any opera company. The first of the four music dramas, Das Rheingold, will premiere this September 2023.

Any new production is an exciting but expensive venture, and a new Ring comprises not one but four new productions. The sheer scale of the works means that they place exceptional demands on our orchestra, artists, designers and technical team. It is your support of Wagner’s greatest work that will enable us to bring to our stage such an epic story and technical undertaking.

Please consider giving to the Wagner appeal today. As an example, a gift of £250 could cover the maintenance service for a Wagner Tuba or £500 could support the production of a dragon arm.
