Biography

Sarah Angliss is a London-based composer and sound designer, specialising in work that augments voices and instruments with live electronics. Giant is her debut opera, commissioned by Britten Pears Arts and supported by a Jerwood Opera Writing Fellowship. It opened Aldeburgh Festival 2023. Other stage work includes The Hairy Ape (Old Vic and Park Avenue Armory), The Twilight Zone (Almeida), The Effect (original production, National Theatre), The Midwich Cuckoos (Duke of Yorks), Once in a Lifetime (Young Vic) and The Voice Line (Somerset House). She was also sound designer on recent ROH productions Alcina and Jephtha. Film scores include Amulet (Garai, 2020) and Vault for the BFI. Her live sets Sensitive Eileen, Loving the Machine, Air Loom, Infrasonic and Ealing Feeder have featured throughout Europe. She also builds robotic instruments, including the polyphonic carillon featured in Giant. Angliss is a recipient of an Ivor Novello Award and Paul Hamlyn Composer’s Award.
