Biography

Rufus Didwiszus studied stage and costume design in Stuttgart with Jürgen Rose. Since then, he has worked with directors including Barrie Kosky, Thomas Ostermeier, Christian Spuck, Sasha Waltz, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Evgeny Titov. His many designs for opera, dance and theatre include Lessons in Love and Violence, Boris Godunov and La fanciulla del West (Zurich Opera), Le nozze de Figaro (Vienna State Opera), La Cage aux Folles (Komische Oper Berlin), Fiddler on the Roof (Lyric Opera of Chicago), Katya Kabanova and Orphée aux enfers (Salzburg Festival), Tosca (Dutch National Opera), Der Rosenkavalier (Bavarian State Opera), Orlando (Bolshoi Ballet), Le Coq d’or (Aix-en-Provence Festival, Adelaide Festival), Sleeping Beauty (Zurich Ballet), Prince Igor (Opera Bastille), Der fliegende Holländer (Deutsche Oper Berlin), Medea (Royal Opera Stockholm) and Blood Wedding (Sydney Theatre Company). Together with the performance artist Joanna Dudley, he has presented his own music theatre works at Sophiensaele and Schaubühne theatres in Berlin and at the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels.
