Biography

British baritone Felix Kemp studied privately in London and at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, generously supported by the Kathleen Roberts Vocal Scholarship. He is the recipient of several prizes. A Britten-Pears Young Artist, he has appeared in masterclasses with Antonio Pappano as part of the European Network of Opera Adademies. His operatic appearances include Giove (La Calisto) for Longborough Festival Opera, Masetto (Don Giovanni) for British Youth Opera, Gaoler (Tosca) and Noah (Russell Hepplewhite’s Silver Electra) for English Touring Opera, Felix (Tom Coult’s Violet) with Britten Sinfonia, the title role in Eugene Onegin for OperaUpClose, Melot (Tristan und Isolde) for Grange Park Opera and Le Bridgadier (Le Pré aux Clercs) for Wexford Festival Opera. 

Kemp performs prolifically in concert and recital. Selected highlights include a tour of Mozart’s Requiem with the Israel Camerata, St John Passion in St Alban’s Abbey, St Matthew Passion at Southwark Cathedral, Beethoven’s Symphony no.9 at Cadogan Hall, Handel’s Messiah with City of London Sinfonia and the title role of Elijah in Arundel and Lincoln Cathedrals. As a recitalist he has performed Wolf Lieder at Snape Maltings, gave the opening concert of the 2019 London Song Festival and sang Brahms’s Vier ernste Gesänge for Oxford Lieder. Recordings and broadcasts include Ethel Smyth’s Fête Galante (Retrospect Opera), Stanford’s The Travelling Companion (Somm) and a broadcast for ‘In Tune’ (BBC Radio 3). This is his Royal Opera debut.
