Biography

German baritone Christoph Pohl studied singing in Hanover and was a member of the Opera Studio of Hamburg State Opera 2003–05. In 2005 he joined the ensemble of Semperoper Dresden, where his roles have included Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Germont, Posa (Don Carlo), Wolfram (Tannhäuser) and Eugene Onegin. He made his Royal Opera debut in the 2015/16 Season as Johannes (Morgen und Abend). His engagements elsewhere include Wolfram for Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra National de Lyon, Staatsoper Hamburg, Falstaff (Salieri) and Guillaume Tell for Theater an der Wien, Kurwenal in Frankfurt, Wolfram and Danilo at La Fenice, Venice, and Count Almaviva and Fritz/Frank for Bayerische Staatsoper. Pohl regularly appears in concert and recital around the world, at venues including Wigmore Hall. In 2011 he released a CD of Lieder by Mahler, Liszt, Pizzetti and Rihm.
