Edit: This article has been amended due to a cast change. Laura Morera will dance the role of the Queen of Hearts for the remainder of the run.

Former Royal Ballet Principal Zenaida Yanowsky will return to the Royal Opera House to perform in two dates of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland during Autumn 2017/18 on 9 October and 23 October 2017.

Zenaida retired from the Company at the end of last Season, but will return to Covent Garden to perform the role of the Queen of Hearts in two performances during the upcoming run.

Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon created the role on her in 2011 and Zenaida will be joined by fellow members of the original cast from the 2011 premiere including Lauren Cuthbertson as Alice, Edward Watson as the White Rabbit and Steven McRae as the Mad Hatter. Federico Bonelli will dance the role of Jack/the Knave of Hearts

The role of the Queen of Hearts will be performed elsewhere during the run by Claire Calvert, Itziar Medizabel, Laura Morera and Tierney Heap.

Further casting for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has also been been announced, accessible via the production page.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland runs 27 September-28 October 2017. Tickets are still available.

The production will be relayed live to cinemas around the world on 23 October 2017. Find your nearest cinema and sign up to our mailing list.

It is a co-production with The National Ballet of Canada, is supported by Boodles and is staged with generous philanthropic support from Kenneth and Susan Green, Doug and Ceri King and The Royal Opera House Endowment Fund.

    Absolutely agree, Helen.
Fantastic to have them both back at ROH. Two utterly unique artists.

  8. What a pity Zen hasn't been able to return to us for a turn as Queen of Hearts/Mother this autumn after all. Will also miss Ed as the White Rabbit. However, Laura Morera and James Hay are also firm faves and looking forward to their performances as Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit respectively.

What a shame that there was no notification that Zenaida would not in fact be dancing. That is the sole reason I bought tickets for 9 October. Disappointed at this lack of customer relations. Had i known i would have returned my ticket.
