The festival, which will be spread over four weeks, is described by Fry as ‘a momentous celebration of two great titans of world music, Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi’.
Events include Inside Wagner’s Head, a one-man show, by actor, writer and director Simon Callow commissioned specially for the festival; live radio broadcasts, workshops, and pop-up performances inspired by Verdi and Wagner; and an investigation into the physiological effects of opera with both Fry and Alan Davies. Many events in Deloitte Ignite are free including a day of singers and choral groups coming together for a Festival of Voices.
The music of Wagner will be brought to life with an installation designed to show just what goes into staging Die Walküre, while composer-in-residence Elspeth Brooks will use recordings from around the world of Verdi’s Va Pensiero to create a unique sound installation in the Crush Room.
