The recent production of Il trittico has been released on DVD, giving audiences another chance to see the acclaimed Richard Jones staging.

The Olivier-nominated Royal Opera production featuring a trio of one-act Puccini operas was first performed together on the same bill at Covent Garden in September 2011, and was acclaimed by the Telegraph as "an operatic treat... three hours of gorgeous music that allows big voices to let emotion rip" and by the Evening Standard as "a triumphant vindication of the social awareness and dramatic power of Puccini's triptych".

The trio of operas offers a panorama of emotions, with the dark and foreboding Il tabarro and comic Gianni Schicchi bookending a heart-wrenching Suor Angelica.

Blog Entartete Musik live tweeted the opening night and profiled each of the pieces prior to curtain up.

Il trittico is available to buy on DVD now from the Royal Opera House Shop at Covent Garden and online from Opus Arte. The Royal Opera House online shop will return soon. The production will also be screened on BBC Four at 8pm on three consecutive Fridays: Il tabarro on the 15 June, Gianni Schicchi on the 22 June and Suor Angelica on 29 June.

TOPTASTIC!!! I shall be glued to the tv for the next three fridays - and the dvd will hopefully be delivered by santa - early!!!! Il Trittico is my favourite, by a million miles. I was gutted when I was unable to come to ROH last year to see it live - I was nursing a relative, who has since passed away - he would have loved it too- he asked me to sing O Mio Babbino Caro at his funeral - which I did and as an amateur I didn't disgrace myself - though not sure what Puccini would have made of it.
