With the Olympics under a year away, the new World Stage film for the 2011 winter Season has a decidedly Olympian influence. About Lauren Cuthbertson

Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, Lauren has held the rank of Principal of the Royal Ballet since 2008 and with the company since 2002.

Lauren will be making her debuts as Manon and in Requiem this season. She will also be dancing the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, among others. Performances of The Sleeping Beauty and Romeo and Juliet will be broadcast live to cinemas around the world.

The Music

The music for this Season’s World Stage film features the track Still Life by acclaimed British rock band The Horrors. The track is taken from their third full length release Skying, commended by the Guardian as “marvellous” and by the NME as a record that proves that the Southend quintet are “one of this generation’s most important bands”.

A very classy film clip. A lovely blend of Swan Lake and a nod to the gymnastics to come in 2012, with a superb pose on the balance beam to finish. Excellent.
