Updated 20/11/15: You can now watch the full Insights event above

The upcoming ROH Insight event focused on Damiano Michieletto's new Royal Opera production of Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci will be live-streamed via the Royal Opera House YouTube channel from 7.15pm GMT on 19 November 2015.

The event, hosted by Director of The Royal Opera Kasper Holten, will see Damiano, his cast and production team explore the production, the tradition of verismo opera and why composers such as Mascagni and Leoncavallo chose to write gritty operas about real life as opposed to romantic fantasies.

Taking part in the Insight alongside Kasper and Damiano will be sopranos Carmen Giannattasio and Eva-Maria Westbroek, and musicologist Nigel Simeone.

Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci runs 3 December 2015—1 January 2016. Tickets are still available.

It is a co-production with Opera Australia, La Monnaie, Brussels and The Göteborg Opera. It is staged with generous philanthropic support from The Royal Opera House Endowment Fund.

Please could you confirm whether this event is live-only or if it will also be available to view at a later date?

  2. Why do hardly any of the pictures match the words?

      Hi Pam,

Do you mean the synchronisation of the video and the audio soundtrack of the interviews?

It seems to be working correctly as far as I can see, but do let us know if it's out of sync for you.

      Thanks,

    Hi Chris,

For some reason the little thumbnail that YouTube provides when you hover over the timestamps is out of sync. At the start of the programme you can clearly see Tony Pappano coaching someone in the thumbnail. The actual insight starts around 23mins in the thumbnails. Maybe this is what Pam was talking about. But I'm not sure if this is even something you control!

  4. I really enjoyed this livestream and think it would be great if you could livestream more of the Insights programmes. The Clore Studio is so small and with so few seats that, even as a Supporting Friend, I often find it impossible to get tickets for these events. How about livestreaming the Pushkin/Onegin Insight on December 9th??

      Hi Jen,

Unfortunately we're not able to stream every Insight event but do subscribe to our channel to be notified of future streamings.

      Thanks,

  5. Great stuff, I was in the room. My favourite bit was the piece with pianist and the 2 young singers.
