Sponsor a Score

Did you know that the Royal Opera House has an on-site Music Library, which contains more than 30,000 scores?

Our new Sponsor a Score Appeal will help our Music Library source, provide, prepare and restore every single piece of music required for each production here at the Royal Opera House.

By making a donation to Sponsor a Score you will be underwriting one of the most vital costs required to bring our productions of opera and ballet to life, from the very first rehearsal to the final curtain calls.

‘We in the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House are very grateful to our Music Librarians. Often, they will attend the first rehearsal of a new production, to spot errors and make notes. In some of the larger, intricate, complex scores this is no small matter!’

Tim Hewitt-Jones Cellist, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House

‘The Chorus performs up to twenty operas each Season, in multiple languages and various vocal combinations. We rely heavily on clear, up-to-date scores to work from. The careful preparation of each Chorus score is a mammoth task. Without our scores, we cannot begin to study, memorize and finally perform our parts in Royal Opera productions.’

Katy Batho, Soprano, Royal Opera Chorus

‘The Music Library is a vital part of a stage management team’s working life. Here at the Royal Opera House we are constantly provided with updated scores for our prompt books, which are essential for every single rehearsal and performance of opera and ballet.’

Johanna Adams Farley, Senior Stage Manager
