Ballet Black, founded by Cassa Pancho, is dedicated to diversifying classical ballet. Since its founding in 2001, this company of black and Asian classically trained dancers has been much acclaimed for its virtuoso and bravura dance and its showcasing of technique, precision and grace in specially-commissioned pieces.
This mixed programme features The Suit, choreographed by Cathy Marston, who is renowned for her expressive and beautifully crafted work. Inspired by Can Themba’s South African fable of the same name, Marston’s ballet is set to music brought together by composer Philip Feeney.
Completing the evening will be Ingoma (which means 'song') a fusion of ballet, African dance and singing created by company dancer and choreographer Mthuthuzeli November. November's work portrays a milestone moment in South African history: the courageous strike action of 60,000 black miners in 1946.
