Wyn Pencarreg



Welsh baritone Wyn Pencarreg made his Royal Opera debut in 2014 as Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia). Previous engagements at the Royal Opera House have included Papin (Babette’s Feast, ROH Education), Hel Helson (Paul Bunyan, English Touring Opera) and creating the role of Lalchand (The Firework-Maker’s Daughter, The Opera Group) in the Linbury Studio Theatre. He has since sung Padre Sansón (The Exterminating Angel), Alcindoro (La bohème) and Flemish Deputy (Don Carlo) for The Royal Opera on the main stage. In the 2019/20 Season he reprises the role of Alcindoro.

Pencarreg grew up in West Wales and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. Engagements include Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) for Opera North and English Touring Opera, Leporello (Don Giovanni) for Opera North, Diva Opera and Mid Wales Opera, Balthasar (Genoveva), Morbio (Die schweigsame Frau) and King (Die Liebe der Danae) for Garsington Opera, Donner (Das Rheingold) for Longborough Festival, Baron Douphol (La traviata), Alcalde (La forza del destino) and Walter Raleigh (Roberto Devereux) for Welsh National Opera, the four villains (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and Ford (Falstaff) for Mid Wales Opera, Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) for Mid Wales Opera and Lyric Opera Productions, Dublin, Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) and Marcello (La bohème) for Lyric Opera Productions, Alidoro (La Cenerentola) for Grange Park Opera, Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and Lescaut (Manon) for English Touring Opera and Kuligin (Kát’a Kabanová) for Glyndebourne Festival.

International appearances have included Luka (The Bear) for Opéra de Monte-Carlo and Roc (The Exterminating Angel) for Royal Danish Opera.
