Thomas Faulkner


British bass Thomas Faulkner makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2019/20 Season as Orest’s Tutor (Elektra).

Faulkner studied at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music. He is currently a member of Frankfurt Opera (where he was previously a Young Artist). His roles for Frankfurt Opera have included Kulygin (Eötvös’s Three Sisters), Lord Gualtiero Valton (I puritani), Benes (Dalibor), Elviro (Serse), Lodovico (Otello), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), John Claggart (Billy Budd), Don Diego (L’Africaine), Graf Lamoral (Arabella), Zuniga (Carmen), Mercury/Hector’s Ghost (Les Troyens) and Farasmane (Radamisto). Other appearances include Banquo (Macbeth) for Scottish Opera, Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Messenius (Cristina Regina di Svezia) and Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore) for Wexford Festival Opera and Masetto (Don Giovanni) for Garsington Festival.

Faulkner’s recent concert appearances include Beethoven’s Symphony no.9 with the Dresdner Philharmonie, Verdi’s Requiem with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and Mozart’s C minor mass with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne.
