Leon Košavić



Croatian baritone Leon Košavic made his Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Ping (Turandot). He returns in the 2019/20 Season as Masetto (Don Giovanni).

Košavic studied at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, and made his professional debut with Croatian National Theatre. His awards include being named Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Musician of the Year, first prize in the Emmerich Smola Award, Germany, third prize in the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, Finland, and reaching the finals of the Queen Sonja International Music Competition, Norway.

Košavic has sung widely in Croatia in roles including Masetto, Leporello and Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Dr Malatesta (Don Pasquale) and Rodolphe (Frédéric Verrières’s Mimi). His other engagements include Don Giovanni for Stuttgart State Opera, Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) for Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liège, Dr Malatesta and Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Finnish National Opera and Opéra national du Rhin and Ruggiero (La Juive) for Opera Vlaanderen.
