Biography

Ukrainian mezzo-soprano Kseniia Nikolaieva was a Jette Parker Young Artist (2020–2022) and made her Royal Opera debut as Bessie (Mahagonny Songspiel), followed by performances as Eboli and Mistress Quickly in the JPYA Summer Performance. She trained at the Kherson Music School and at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music and has Master’s degrees in Opera Singing and Architectural Design. Prior to joining the JPYAP, she studied at the National Opera Studio in London performing Sapho with the orchestra of Welsh National Opera and in recitals with English National Opera. Her ROH roles have included Giovanna (Rigoletto), Annina (La traviata), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) and Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte). Notable engagements elsewhere include Marta (Iolanta), Hivria (Sorochinskaya Yarmarka), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Maddalena (Rigoletto) and Lyubasha (The Tsar’s Bride) for Kyiv National Opera Studio and A Voice from Above (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and Berliner Philharmoniker. Plans include her Teatro di San Carlo debut as La Cieca (La Gioconda) and Amneris (Aida) at Oper im Steinbruch.
