Swiss costume designer Karin Jud made her Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season on Così fan tutte, directed by Jan Philipp Gloger and revived in the 2018/19 Season.
Jud was born in Zürich. She studied fashion design at the Basel School of Design, and went on to work as costume assistant at Schauspielhaus Zürich and the Zürich Opera House. Since 2007 she has worked as a freelance costume designer in theatre and opera. Theatre engagements include costume designs for Schaubühne Berlin, Theater Augsburg, Bavarian State Theatre, Schauspielhaus Hannover, Schauspielhaus Graz, Mainz State Theatre, Deutsches Spielhaus, Hamburg, and Volkstheater Vienna. She works regularly with Gloger, their productions together including the world premiere of Ayad Akhtar’s Junk (Schauspielhaus Hamburg), and Le nozze di Figaro (Theater Augsburg), Idomeneo (Frankfurt Opera), La verità in cimento (Zürich Opera), Alcina and Simon Boccanegra (Semperoper Dresden), Der Rosenkavalier, Eine florentinische Tragödie and Gianni Schicchi (Dutch National Opera) and Der fliegende Holländer (Bayreuth Festival).
Jud has also worked with directors including Ingo Berk, Barbara-David Brüesch and Jan Stephan Schmieding.
