Biography

Romanian tenor Ioan Hotea is a graduate of the Bucharest Conservatory. At 21, he made his debut as Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) for the Bucharest Opera, later returning for Alfredo, Count Almaviva and Don Ottavio. He won First Prizes in both the Opera and Zarzuela categories at the 2015 Operalia Competition and was a winner of the Grand Prize at the 2015 Hariclea Darclée International Competition. Hotea has since performed on stages worldwide, including at the Royal Opera House, Vienna State Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Zurich Opera, Paris Opera, Opera de Monte-Carlo, Choregies d’Orange and Deutsche Oper Berlin. His 2023/24 Season engagements include La Juive (Teatro Regio, Turin), Lucia di Lammermoor (Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg Staatsoper, Rigoletto (Bonn Opera) and I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Teatro Massimo, Palermo.
