Biography

Chinese mezzo-soprano Hongni Wu joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in September 2018. In the 2018/19 Season she sang Flora Bervoix (La traviata), Siébel (Faust), Mercédès (Carmen) and Phaedra (Phaedra) for The Royal Opera. In the 2019/20 Season she sings Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Flora Bervoix, Karolka (Jenufa) and Tebaldo (Don Carlo). 

Wu is a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2018). She completed her professional studies and Master of Music Degree at Manhattan School of Music where she was the recipient of the Stan Sesser Career Award. Wu received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Xinghai Conservatory of Music. At Manhattan School of Music she sang Angelina (La Cenerentola), Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) and Dragonfly (L'Enfant et les sortilèges). Other appearances include Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) with Opera Maine, Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) with Martina Arroyo Foundation and Mrs Umeya (Qingling Song) at Guangzhou Opera House. She has participated in the Bel Canto in Tuscany and Scuola di Bel Canto summer programmes in Italy. 

Wu has participated in concerts and recitals in New York, Nantucket, Portland Maine, Shanghai, Yangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing and Guangzhou. She has also sung for the Martina Arroyo Prelude Gala Concert and Spring Luncheon Cabaret in New York.
