Biography

Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Gabrielė Kupšytė joined the Jette Parker Artists Programme in the 2022/23 Season.  

Kupšytė is a graduate of the Mascarade Opera Studio, the Royal Academy of Music and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Kupšytė twice attended the George Solti Accademia, where she worked with Roberto Frontali, Barbara Frittoli, Grace Bumbry and Richard Bonynge.

Roles include Romeo (I Capuleti e I Montecchi) at the Lithuanian National Opera House, the title role in Rossini’s La Cenerentola (New Generation Festival) and Veronique (Le Docteur Miracle) for L’Orchestre de Chamber de Genève.  For Royal Academy Opera she has sung the title role in Chérubin, Prince Athamas (Semele), The Dog (The Cunning Little Vixen) and La chatte/L’écureuil (L’enfant et les sortileges). For The Royal Opera her roles have included Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), 2nd Lady (Die Zauberflöte), 2nd Nymph (Rusalka), the title role in JPAP’s production of Arminio, Inez (Il Trovatore), Kaetchen (Werther), and Flora (La traviata).

In the 2023/24 Season, Kupšytė’s Royal Opera roles include Third Maid (Elektra), Mercédès (Carmen), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and, for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Laura (Iolanta).
