Biography

He is a Staff Director at The Royal Opera House and has directed major revivals for: The Royal Opera (Les Vêpres siciliennes, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Macbeth, Fidelio, Un ballo in maschera, Die Zauberflöte, L’elisir d’amore, Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, La traviata, Simon Boccanegra 1881 version, Don Pasquale, Der fliegende Holländer, Falstaff and La bohème), La Scala, Milan (Lohengrin), Glyndebourne (Owen Wingrave, Kát’a Kabanová, The Makropulos Case, Tristan und Isolde and Jenufa), ENO (Parsifal), Rome Opera (The Magic Flute), Israeli Opera (Jenufa), ABAO Bilbao (Don Pasquale), Los Angeles Opera (Der fliegende Holländer), Opera Australia (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Greek National Opera (Don Carlo) and the Canadian Opera Company (Così fan tutte). He co-directed Nikolaus Lehnhoff’s production of Elektra for the 2010 Salzburg Festival. In the 2021/22 Season he revived The Magic Flute for The Royal Opere, before returning to revive Macbeth.
