Ben Clark

Set designer


British set designer Ben Clark made his Royal Opera debut in 2013 as Associate Set Designer on The Importance of Being Earnest, creating set designs after an idea by Johannes Schütz, directed by Ramin Gray.

Clark has lived and worked in Berlin since 1999. He has collaborated with theatre, opera and film directors and designers including Benedict Andrews, Cate Blanchett, Jürgen Gosch, Reinhild Hoffmann, Claus Peymann, Roland Schimmelpfennig, Schütz, Thomas Vinterberg and Stein Winge. He has worked for opera companies including Komische Oper Berlin, Zürich Opera, Opéra national du Rhin, Teatro del Maggio Musicale and at the Vienna and Salzburg festivals.

Clark’s work in theatre includes for such companies as the Berliner Ensemble, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Volksbühne Berlin, Burgtheater Vienna, Theater an der Wien, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, the Young Vic and Sydney Theatre Company.
