An Insight event exploring Obsidian Tear, Wayne McGregor's latest work for The Royal Ballet, was live-streamed for free via the Royal Opera House YouTube channel on 11 May 2016. The live-stream is still available to be watched by clicking the video above.

During the event, The Royal Ballet's Resident Choreographer worked with artists from the Company to rehearse extracts from the ballet. He also spoke about the creation of his work together with its composer and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Obsidian Tear is a visceral exploration of myth and modernity, inspired by Salonen’s orchestral work about the Ancient Greek goddess of the night Nyx.

The ballet has its world premiere at the Royal Opera House on 28 May alongside Kenneth MacMillan's The Invitation and Christopher Wheeldon's Within the Golden Hour.

Obsidian Tear / The Invitation / Within the Golden Hour runs 28 May-11 June 2016. Tickets are still available.

Great treat to have the composer conducting the first performances too! Salonen is an excellent conductor.
