A ROH Insights event exploring Bellini's tragic opera Norma was live-streamed for free via the Royal Opera House YouTube channel on 1 September 2016 at 7.15pm BST - and you can watch it again on demand.

The first Insights event of the 2016/17 Season explored The Royal Opera's first new production of Norma in more than 30 years. Music Director Antonio Pappano joined singer Joseph Calleja and director Àlex Ollé in conversations delving deeper into the musical fireworks, the contemporary setting, and the weighty religious themes in the opera.

This new production, full of melodious arias, ravishing duets and thrilling choruses opens at the Royal Opera House on 12 September, and this event provided a glimpse into what audiences can expect from this bel canto masterpiece.

Subscribe to the Royal Opera House YouTube channel for notifications about further live streams:

Norma runs 12 September - 8 October 2016. Tickets are still available.

The production is a co-production with Opéra National de Paris and is generously supported by Mrs Susan A. Olde OBE and The Tsukanov Family Foundation.

The Royal Opera's Insights was broadcast at 7.15pm live on this page, and on our YouTube channel. Find out more about our Insights events.

This will be in cinemas "around the world" on 26 Sept., any chance NYC or White Plains NY or a cinema near about there (asking about Norma specifically) --- thought world-wide might include NYC where I will be 26 Sept and would love to view. Thanks so much if able to respond. Otherwise u-tube thereafter will be easy to view, the entire Opera? or just some of it?

      Hi Carol,

We have recently confirmed screenings for Norma at Kew Gardens Cinemas and at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntingdon. However, we are still in the process of confirming additional cinemas in the US so please do keep checking our website, as we are hoping to add more sites soon.

Our YouTube channel features some behind the scenes material as well as trailers and shorter clips, and Norma will also be included in this season’s BBC radio broadcasts.

The Norma insight actually seems to start about 16:30 minutes into the YouTube video at the moment - might be good to remove the miscellaneous material at the front (and delete this comment!). Interesting stuff once you find it though - thanks for uploading.

      Thanks Alison.
We've updated the start time for you.
      All best wishes,
