The Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker is one of the roles all aspiring dancers dream of performing. With its delicate choreography and sparkling costume, it has become one of the iconic images of the ballerina.
Royal Ballet Principal Sarah Lamb is one of the dancers currently performing the role at Covent Garden, and her preparations for the role have been captured by legendary photographer Mario Testino's creative team in 'Becoming Plum', a short film for online channel Mira Mira.
The film showcases the technical and nuanced choreography that dancers must remember and perfect to dance the role. These steps are honed over many weeks in the studio before the dancers is ready for on-stage performance.
The ballet is staged with generous philanthropic support from The Jean Sainsbury Royal Opera House Fund.
