An ROH Insights event celebrating the legacy of choreographer Kenneth MacMillan was livestreamed via the Royal Opera House YouTube channel and this page on 13 October at 8pm BST - and is now available to watch on demand.

It follows an earlier streamed Insight, also exploring the choreographer's work and now available to watch on-demand. Both events are part of Kenneth MacMillan: a National Celebration, a festival bringing together leading British dance companies to celebrate MacMillan’s on the 25th anniversary of his death.

The Legacy of MacMillan saw Northern Ballet rehearsing Gloria as well as Scottish Ballet rehearsing Le Baiser de la fée. The event featured panel discussions and an insight into Benesh notation – the system by which ballet dancers record and learn choreography. It was presented by Clemency Burton-Hill.

Kenneth MacMillan: A National Celebration runs until 1 November 2017. Tickets are still available.

Fascinating Insight. What intrigued me, seeing the Baiser rehearsal, was how Lynn Seymour's very special qualities as a dancer had inspired the choreography for the young bride, as it had for the choreography of The Invitation and, later, for Juliet..

Another excellent Insight evening. Will you be filming and putting on Youtube the 2 ballets being performed in the Clore where it was impossible to buy tickets i.e. Jeux and Sea of Troubles?

      Hi John,

Many thanks for your comment, and apologies for the delay in moderation. Unfortunately, we won't be streaming the ballets on YouTube this time; we're not able to film all our productions for financial, legal and artistic reasons, and this festival is one of the ones we haven't been able to share more widely online.

      Sorry to disappoint.

      Hi John,

Glad you enjoyed the Insight. Unfortunately we are unable to film these productions at this time.

  3. Brilliant! - thank you for organising this Insight event.
