High House Production Park once again hosts a free Big Draw event on Saturday 22 October 2016. The Royal Opera House, artists from the High House Artist Studios, High House Community Group and The Backstage Centre will all be taking part to offer everyone a great day of drawing inspiration and fun.
This year’s Big Draw theme is ‘Steam Powered’. The High House event will explore this theme through Offenbach’s opera The Tales of Hoffman (Les Contes d’Hoffman), onstage at the Royal Opera House this autumn. Everyone, young or old, beginner or expert, is invited to High House Production Park for the free Big Draw event, to draw and learn tips and techniques from skilled and experienced artists.
There will be lots of activities around the Park in get involved in:
- Design costumes with Royal Opera House costume makers and even try a few on.
- Visit artist Hilary Powell, the recipient of this year’s Stephen Cripp’s Studio Award, at the High House Artist Studios.
- Add your local knowledge and ideas to a giant map of the area drawn with local Purfleet chalk, which will help plot out locations for a film that explores, sings and celebrates the landscape.
- Settle down in the café at the drawing table and meet artists who will share their advice and insights on drawing.
Paper and pencils will be available so everyone can simply turn up and get drawing. No previous experience or specialist skill is needed, just come and put pencil to paper and see where inspiration takes you.
The Coachman’s Café will be serving refreshments. Alternatively, feel free to bring a picnic and enjoy the Walled Garden and the Orchard. There is plenty of free parking on site too.
This event takes place at High House Production Park in Thurrock. Find out how to get here.
