Opera on BBC TV and radio: Broadcasts in spring and summer 2013

Highlights include Pappano's Essential Ring Cycle on BBC Four and Eugene Onegin, Written on Skin and Nabucco on Radio 3.

'Pappano’s Essential Ring Cycle', a documentary celebrating the bicentenary of Wagner’s birth, will be broadcast on BBC Four on Friday 17 May at 7.30pm.

The programme is presented by The Royal Opera's Music Director Antonio Pappano, who conducted Wagner's Ring Cycle at the start of this Season, and explores Wagner’s epic composition and its impact. It features Bryn Terfel, John Tomlinson, Susan Bullock and Sarah Connolly, all of whom performed in Keith Warner’s production earlier this Season.

BBC Radio 3 will also broadcast a selection operas from across the 2012/13 season, including Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, starring Simon Keenlyside and Krassimira Stoyanova; George Benjamin’s Written on Skin, which received rave reviews on its premiere in March; and a live relay of Benjamin Britten’s Gloriana. Performances from previous Royal Opera Seasons will also be broadcast as part of the Verdi and Wagner bicentenary celebrations. See below for full details.

Recorded in 2009. Tim Albery’s production, starring Bryn Terfel and Anja Kampe, conducted by Marc Albrecht.

Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Saturday 1 June, 6pm
Kasper Holten’s production starring Simon Keenlyside and Krassimira Stoyanova, conducted by Robert Ticciati.

Verdi’s Nabucco, Saturday 8 June, 6pm
Daniele Abbado’s production starring Plácido Domingo and Liudmyla Monastyrska, conducted by Nicola Luisotti.

Rossini’s La donna del lago, Saturday 15 June, 6pm
John Fulljames’s production starring Joyce Di Donato and Juan Diego Flórez, conducted by Michele Mariotti.
