Nominations announced for South Bank Sky Arts Awards 2016

Wayne McGregor’s Woolf Works and Kasper Holten's production of Król Roger received nods alongside the best of British arts and culture.

The South Bank Sky Arts Awards 2016 have been announced.

Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet Wayne McGregor received a nomination for Woolf Works, which premiered with The Royal Ballet in 2015/16 Season. The work focuses on the life and writings of British writer Virginia Woolf.

The Royal Opera was also recognized for Kasper Holten's production of Szymanowski's opera Król Roger.

The awards, celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, honour the arts in 10 categories including theatre, dance, opera, literature and visual art.

Other notable nominees alongside McGregor include BBC Two’s Wolf Hall based on Hilary Mantel’s novel of the same name, the street artist Banksy for his Dismaland Installation, and Years & Years for their debut album Communion.

Winners will be announced by host Melvyn Bragg at the awards ceremony on the 8 June 2016. The show will be televised live from London’s Savoy hotel on Sky Arts. Check Sky Arts listings for further details.
