Cast changes: Un ballo in maschera

Serena Gamberoni to replace Rosemary Joshua in the role of Oscar, and Jihoon Kim to replace James Platt in the role of Tom.

Update: Lauren Fagan will now be singing two performances as Oscar.

Due to ill health, British soprano Rosemary Joshua has withdrawn from singing the role of Oscar in Un ballo in maschera. The role will now be shared between Italian soprano Serena Gamberoni (18, 22, 30 December; 2, 6 and 9 January) and Australian soprano and Jette Parker Young Artist Lauren Fagan (13 and 17 January).

Serena Gamberoni has previously sung the role of Oscar in Verona, for La Scala, Milan, and in Parma. Her recent roles have also included Musetta in La bohème and Nannetta in Falstaff) in Verona, and she has also sung Adina in L’elisir d’amore in Verona and Ancona, Micaëla in Carmen in Genoa and Trieste and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi in Turin.

British bass and Jette Parker Young Artist James Platt has withdrawn from the role of Tom. Korean bass and Company Principal Jihoon Kim will now sing all performances, having been previously scheduled to sing the role in performances in January 2015. Jihoon Kim’s other appearances with The Royal Opera this Season include Count Ceprano in Rigoletto and Marquis D’Obigny in La traviata.

The rest of the cast remains the same.
