Cinema Festival: Sylvia: Friday 7 December 2018, 7pm at Linbury Theatre

Cinema Festival

From 3 December 2018 to 7 January 2019 we celebrate ten years of the Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season with screenings of great operas and ballets.

Venue

Linbury Theatre

Royal Opera House, Bow Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9DD

Season

This event is part of the Winter 2018/19 season.

Background

Presented by Darcey Bussell, this special screening gives audiences a chance to see the former Royal Ballet Principal as Sylvia – one of her most iconic roles – and regular Guest Principal Roberto Bolle as Aminta in this performance of Frederick Ashton’s Sylvia, recorded in 2005 as part of The Royal Ballet’s 75th anniversary celebrations. There is detail and fun in every character of the ballet, especially in the role of Sylvia herself – one of ballet’s most wide-ranging Principal roles. Inspired by Greek mythology and featuring such recognizable characters as Diana and Eros, this delightful ballet is a charming feast for the senses, set to a marvellous score by Léo Delibes.

Running Time

The performance lasts about 2 hours 20 minutes, including one interval
