From 3 December 2018 to 7 January 2019 we celebrate ten years of the Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season with screenings of great operas and ballets.
Royal Opera House, Bow Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9DD
This event is part of the Winter 2018/19 season.
Presented by Director of The Royal Opera Oliver Mears, this screening of Richard Jones’s 2017 production of La bohème highlights the themes of young love and poverty at the heart of Puccini’s best-loved opera. An exciting young cast includes Nicole Car as the gentle seamstress Mimì, Michael Fabiano as her lover the poet Rodolfo, Mariusz Kwiecien as his supportive friend Marcello, and Simona Mihai as Marcello’s glamorous lover Musetta. Royal Opera Music Director Antonio Pappano conducts one of his favourite operas.
This production was screened live to cinemas worldwide during its first run of performances, in autumn 2017. Stuart Laing’s designs contrast the hardship endured by the bohemians and their girlfriends with the splendour of 19th-century metropolitan Paris, and include a spectacular re-creation of a Paris shopping arcade and glamorous restaurant in Act II.
