Opportunities for Women Conductors

The Royal Opera House is committed to achieving greater gender balance in the creation and performance of ballet and opera. For example, The Royal Opera has signed up to the Keychange initiative to ensure a 50:50 gender balance within the creative teams of the new work it commissions by 2022. To address the gender imbalance in the field of conducting and support more women to succeed as conductors of opera and ballet, the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme delivers training opportunities for women conductors, most recently a weekend for emerging ballet conductors with the Royal Ballet last May and a week-long course in June hosted by the National Opera Studio and the Royal Opera in partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Society.
