Plácido Domingo makes his debut in a baritone role at Covent Garden.
Legendary tenor Plácido Domingo takes on one of the great Verdian roles for baritone as the troubled Simon Boccanegra. In this revival of Elijah Moshinsky’s acclaimed grand production, Antonio Pappano, The Royal Opera’s Music Director, conducts an exceptional cast that includes soprano Marina Poplavskaya as Boccanegra’s long-lost daughter Amelia, Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja as her lover Gabriele Adorno, and bass Ferruccio Furlanetto as Boccanegra’s old foe, Fiesco.
The Royal Opera House and Plácido Domingo have enjoyed a long and successful relationship for almost 40 years. Domingo has performed 25 tenor roles with The Royal Opera across 201 performances: 184 staged performances, eight gala performances attended by members of the Royal Family and nine opera concert performances, as well as singing selected arias in eight galas and two opera concerts. Join us for his performance of one of Verdi’s greatest tragic baritone roles.
