Paul Hamlyn Foundation

Paul Hamlyn Foundation and ROH Education

In 1986 Lord Hamlyn’s wife Helen and close friend Claus Moser (then the Chairman of the Royal Opera House) came up with the idea for the Paul Hamlyn Performances.

Over 20 years, with Lord Hamlyn and the Foundation’s continuing support, nearly 200,000 people have enjoyed their first experience of opera or ballet at a minimal cost. People who might otherwise never have thought that opera or ballet were ‘for them’.

In 2007 the Foundation donated £10 million to establish a permanent Paul HamlynEducation Fund within the Royal Opera House Endowment Fund that supports a range of Educational programmes and activities each year.

The Paul Hamlyn Hall has now been dedicated to Lord Hamlyn’s memory and named in his honour in recognition of the Foundation’s tremendous contribution over 21 years.
