Royal Opera House Endowment Fund

The Endowment Fund makes grants to the Royal Opera House for productions by The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet, education and outreach programmes, and to help with the physical maintenance of the House.

The money is directed to where the need is greatest, for example, a new production, the purchase of an essential piece of stage machinery, acquiring the intellectual rights to a new ballet or the commissioning of a new work. The remit is wide, but the basic premise is simple: the continued pursuit of excellence by the Royal Opera House.

Through the generosity of enlightened individuals, the Endowment Fund will secure the place of the Royal Opera House as a place of vision, a vital force across the globe in both opera and ballet, and a home for Britain’s cultural heritage for generations to come.’
Dame Vivien Duffield DBE, Chairman of the Royal Opera House Endowment Fund

The Royal Opera House Endowment Fund is a registered charity (no. 1089928) and is independent of the Royal Opera House. It is administered by its own trustees, and is a permanent fund. Donations are invested and the Fund’s income is derived from interest on the capital. This is then used to make grants to the Royal Opera House while the capital remains untouched.

While it is possible to make a donation to the Royal Opera House Endowment Fund during your lifetime, the majority of gifts received are legacies from opera and ballet lovers who valued and enjoyed the Royal Opera House for many years and made provision in their wills to support its work in perpetuity.

If you decide to include the Royal Opera House in your will and would like to let us know, you can do so by contacting the Development Office on 020 7212 9462. Letting us know will enable us to thank you, and recognise your relationship with the Royal Opera House through the Baton Associates.
