Description

A unique and intimate, live theatrical performance by a chamber ensemble of actors, singers and instrumentalists, portraying the deep and ultimately tragic love between the composer Robert Schumann (Sting / Simon Keenlyside) and his pianist wife Clara Wieck (Trudie Styler / Rebecca Evans).

The couple's long separation, so formative an influence on their lives, is reflected in the division of the ensemble into male and female groups. Letters and lyrics are linked together by narrator Derek Jacobi to complete the essential outline of the story. Conceived and directed by John Caird, Twin Spirits was first performed in June 2005 at the Royal Opera House and has since been experienced only at private performances for charity by small audiences, who have been left deeply touched and inspired by its depiction of profound love.

Featuring: Sting and Trudie Styler, Derek Jacobi, Simon Keenlyside, Sergej Krylov, Iain Burnside, Rebecca Evans, Natalie Clein and Natasha Paremski.

Devised and directed for the stage by John Caird. Spoken in English and sung in German with subtitles in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian.
