Renée Fleming appears in one of her greatest roles - the beautiful Marschallin of Strauss's bittersweet comedy of love, Der Rosenkavalier. Her peerless performance is supported by a 'galactic cast' (Christian Thielemann), which includes Sophie Koch as Octavian (the "Knight of the Rose"), Diana Damrau as the young Sophie, Franz Hawlata as the boorish Baron Ochs and Jonas Kaufmann, making a guest appearance as the Italian Singer. Herbert Wernicke's celebrated Salzburg Festival production was specially restaged at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden for this high definition film.
