- In stock

This classic recording of Ariadne auf Naxos, the first to be made in the studio, not only features many of the finest singers of the day but is historically significant in that most of the artists had been active during Richard Strauss's later years. The October 1955 issue of The Gramophone thought 'the opera... perfectly cast, magnificently performed, and very well recorded...Schwarzkopf brings the dark tone that is needed for Ariadne's sorrows, and all the rapture called for at the end'. Of Karajan the reviewer wrote: 'his genius has never been more apparent'.
