Description
La rondine is a superb, unique and remarkably modern work. The opera is finally claiming its rightful place among Puccini's other masterpieces – thanks largely to the championship of Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna, two artists who have played a major role in the opera's resurgence.
Gheorghiu plays the kept woman who gambles on true love, while Alagna is the man who makes her question the cost of her glittering existence. Nicolas Joël directs this production for the Metropolitan Opera, New York. It was originally staged at the Royal Opera House in May 2002.
