One of the best new productions the Royal Opera has done. Completely satisfiying. Il Tabarro dark and atmospheric. Gianni Schicchi ironically funny (watch for the child in the go cart!!! Wonderful). Then Sour Angelica, always the most problematic to solve. Well, glasses raised to Mr. Richard jones. He made it real and a real tradegy. I remember seeing this in the house and was just shattered by the brilliance of this really clever staging. The performances are uniformally great -must make a mention of Ermonela Jaho's Angelica. Loved the I'm going for it attitude- and it really paid off. Pappano in the pit ( love the alliteration!) so obvious this man loves Puccini. ROH orchestra on glorious form. So summing up, an excellent dvd well filmed and a very good recording of a vintage night at Covent Garden.
