Description
Composer, conductor, arranger and orchestrator, John Lanchbery (1923-2003) achieved his greatest triumph with SIr Fredrick Ashton's comic ballet La fille mal gardée, for which he adapted a 19th-century score by the French composer Hérold. Also with Ashton, Lanchbery brought Beatrix Potter's animal characters to cinematic life in 1971 with transformations of music by Sullivan, Balfe and other Victorian composers.
