Firebird Clutch Bag

Vibrant hand made ballet clutch bag, inspired by the tutu worn by Margot Fonteyn in 1954.

- In stock

Elegant Firebird clutch bag hand made and beaded by St Nicolas, inspired by the tutu worn by Margot Fonteyn as The Firebird in the Sadler's Wells Ballet production of The Firebird (1954) originally designed by Natalia Goncharova.

Exclusively made for the Royal Opera House.

Size: 20 x 10 x 5 cms

This Firebird clutch bag is handmade using the traditional method of zardozi embroidery. Zari-embroidery originated in Persia and reached India in the 12th Century. Traditionally using gold wires to decorate courtly robes and heraldic emblems, the highly skilled technique means ‘sewing with gold’.

St.Nicolas has been supporting the same family‐run business in Northern India for 14 years, and this long term relationship means that they can supply unique handmade designs at competitive prices, without compromising the welfare of their artisans.
