Biography

Born in Wales, Pencarreg studied at the RNCM, and won the Erich Vietheer Memorial Award from Glyndebourne. His roles include Mozart’s Figaro (Opera North, English Touring Opera), Count Almaviva (Mid Wales Opera, Opera Theatre Company, Dublin), Le Bailli in Werther (Irish National Opera), Leporello (Opera North, Mid Wales Opera), Masetto (Opera North, Glyndebourne Festival), Peter in Hänsel und Gretel and De Brétigny in Manon (Opera North), Kuligin in Kát’a Kabanová (Glyndebourne Festival), Donner in Das Rheingold (Longborough Festival), Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Flemish Deputy in Don Carlo, Padre Sansón in The Exterminating Angel and Alcindoro (The Royal Opera), Le Sire de Béthune in Les vêpres siciliennes (Welsh National Opera), Lescaut in Manon and Papageno (English Touring Opera), Ford and the four villains in Les contes d’Hoffmann (Mid Wales Opera), Belcore, Marcello and Sharpless (Lyric Opera Dublin) and Luka in The Bear (Monte-Carlo Opera). He created Lalchand (The Firework-Maker’s Daughter) for The Opera Group, reprising it for the Royal Opera House and on tour.
