Austrian mezzo-soprano Verena Gunz made her Royal Opera debut in 2015 as Aegea (Rossi’s Orpheus) at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Shakespeare’s Globe. She has since sung Nerissa (The Merchant of Venice) for Welsh National Opera at the Royal Opera House.

Gunz was born in Linz and studied at the Vienna University of Music and Drama and the International Opera Studio, Gent. Her engagements include Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and Nerissa for Bregenz Festival, Ninon (Die Teufel von Loudun) and Flowermaiden and Page (Parsifal) for Royal Danish Opera, Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) at the Royal Albert Hall, Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) in concert in the West End, Carmen for Streetwise Opera, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) for Polish National Opera and Nancy (Albert Herring) and Dryad (Ariadne auf Naxos) in Montepulciano.

Her other roles include Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Xerxes, Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Hänsel and Sandman (Hänsel und Gretel), Ramiro (La finta giardiniera), Concepcion (L’Heure espagnole) and Varvara and Fekluša (Káta Kabanová).
