Biography

Japanese dancer Sumina Sasaki joined The Royal Ballet as a Prix de Lausanne apprentice from the start of the 2019/20 Season and was promoted to Artist in 2020. 

Sasaki was born in Osaka, Japan and began her training at the age of three. She trained at Michiko Sasaki Ballet, and Zurich Dance Academy. She won the second prize at the Tanzolymp in 2017. She won the third prize and Best Swiss Candidate Prize at the Prix de Lausanne in 2019. 

Professional engagements whilst a student have included in La Esmeralda and in Grand Pas Classique. Her repertory while at the Company includes Spanish (Swan Lake), Mayerling and Anemoi. She created a role in Wayne McGregor's Untitled, 2023.
