German tenor Stefan Vinke made his Royal Opera debut in the 2012/13 Season as Siegfried (Der Ring des Nibelungen), a role he reprises in the 2018/19 Season.

Vinke was born in Georgsmarienhütte and studied singing and church music at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. From 1999 to 2005 he was a member of the Mannheim National Theatre, singing Jungendlicher Heldentenor (youthful heroic) roles. He first sang Siegfried in 2006 for Cologne Opera. He has gone on to sing the role for Bayreuth Festival, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera Australia, the Wagner in Budapest Festival, the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest and for Seattle Opera, among others. Other notable appearances include Lohengrin for Vienna State Opera, Tannhäuser for Deutsche Oper Berlin and La Fenice, Venice, Tristan (Tristan und Isolde) for the Liceu, Barcelona, Bayreuth Festival and in Hong Kong, Turin and Cologne, Menelas (Die ägyptische Helena) and Parsifal for Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Zurich, Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos) for Stuttgart Opera and Opéra Bastille, Paul (Die tote Stadt) for La Fenice, Venice, and in Sydney and Drum Major (Wozzeck) for Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Notable concert appearances include Mahler’s Symphony no.8 at the BBC Proms, the Enescu Festival and with the Philharmonia and Maazel (recorded for Signum), Schmidt’s Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Beethoven’s Symphony no.9 for the Enescu Festival and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the New York Philharmonic.
