Soutra Gilmour made her Royal Opera debut in 2014, creating set designs for Quartett, directed by John Fulljames, in the Linbury Studio Theatre. Her previous work at the Royal Opera House includes designs for OperaShots and Into the Little Hill/Down by the Greenwood Side, directed by Fulljames for The Opera Group in the Linbury Studio Theatre. She returned in 2014 to create set designs for Un ballo in maschera, directed by Katharina Thoma on the main stage.
Soutra trained at the Wimbledon School of Arts. She regularly collaborates with Fulljames, their productions including Saul and Hansel and Gretel (Opera North), Bake for One Hour (English National Opera), The Shops (The Opera Group at Bregenz Festival), The Birds, Trouble in Tahiti, Mahagonny Songspiel and Walking not Driving (The Opera Group) and The Girl of Sand (Almeida Theatre). Other opera credits include Anna Bolena, Don Giovanni and Mary Stuart (English Touring Opera), A Better Place (ENO), Carmen (Opera North) and El Cimarrón (Queen Elizabeth Hall).
Gilmour works prolifically in theatre, productions including for the National Theatre (Strange Interlude, Morning to Midnight, Double Feature, Antigone and Shadow of a Boy), Royal Shakespeare Company (Candide and The Tragedy of Thomas Hobbes), Old Vic (The Duchess of Malfi), Young Vic (When the World Was Green), Royal Court (The Pride), Donmar (The Night Alive, Inadmissible Evidence and Piaf), Almeida (Reasons to Be Pretty), Garrick (The Little Dog Laughed), Vaudeville (In a Forest Dark and Deep), Apollo (Three Days of Rain), Gate (Hair and Witness) and Broadway (Cyrano de Bergerac). She has been nominated for Olivier, Evening Standard, Southbank Show and Tony awards.
