Simon Biazeck

Tenor

Biography

Australian tenor and composer Simon Biazeck made his Royal Opera debut in 2009 as Waiter (Der Rosenkavalier) and has since returned to sing Apprentice (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg).

Born in Melbourne, he studied at the Victorian College of the Arts with David Ashton-Smith, Dame Joan Hammond and Gerald English. His musical interests encompass early music, contemporary performance art, grand opera, song and composition. He has given solo recitals at the Aldeburgh Festival, the Royal Opera House and Wigmore Hall, sang in Betsy Jolas’s Schliemann (Opéra de Lyon) and appeared as Dancing Master and Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos) for Aldeburgh Festival.

His song cycle Songs of Soldier Poets was commissioned for the 2014 Daniel Corkery Summer School in Inchigeelagh, County Cork, and his Two Rosenberg Songs have become closely associated with the recent resurgence of interest in the World War I poet Isaac Rosenberg.
