Italian mezzo-soprano Serena Malfi made her Royal Opera debut in 2014 as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia).

Malfi studied at the Rome Conservatory and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. She made her operatic debut in Salieri’s La grotta di Trofonio at the 2009 Winterthur Festival and has since appeared for such companies as La Scala, Milan, Paris Opéra, Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Rome Opera, Teatro Comunale, Florence, Opera de Oviedo, Teatro Real, Madrid, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia, Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, and Zürich Opera, and at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

Malfi’s repertory includes Rosina, the title role in La Cenerentola, Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Nerone (Agrippina), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Annio (La clemenza di Tito), Despina (Così fan tutte, in her La Scala debut under Daniel Barenboim), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Pippo (La gazza ladra) and roles in Pergolesi’s Flaminio and Salustia. Her concert appearances include Beethoven’s Symphony no.9 at the Vienna Konzerthaus. She has appeared in recital as part of the Rosenblatt Recital Series at St John’s Smith Square.
